Sigma has added a new lens to its ART lineup. The 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART. You can now preorder the lens for $849 dollars and it will be available March 20 2015.
If there were only three primes I could own for landscape photography it would be a 14mm, a 24mm and a 50mm. The Ironic thing is, I own a 14mm, two 35mms, a 40mm and a 100mm, but that’s a different story.
I remember a few years ago Sigma mentioned that they were going to raise the bar with image quality and it looks like they’ve really stuck to it. These ART lenses are not messing around. They are phenomenal for the price.
For me this new Sigma 24mm f1/4 is something I’ll be drooling over.
Maybe I’ll buy it maybe I wont, it really depends on the quality of the Tamron 15-30mm lens and if the Canon 11-24mm lens ever comes down in price. If not, this Sigma 24mm would go great with the new Canon 50Mpx or rumored Sony and Nikon 50Mpx cameras. Can you imagine shooting star photography with this at f/1.4? It would be incredible.
That’s my two cents on this lens, now for some specs.

Who Is This Lens For
24mm is a strange focal distance. It kind of fits in that spot that’s not great for landscape photography and not great for portraits either. It’s this in-between go to focus length for everything else.
Like the 35mm lens, it’s sort of an everyday focal length. Like an iPhones camera. It’s wide enough for small spaces and good enough to take pictures and videos of your cat.
Or if you’re on an APS-C camera this will give you something around 38mm. A great all around focal length if you’re ever stuck on a desert island with only one lens.
But ultimately if you’re a wedding photography, I think this lens is a must. 24mm is also a great length for some landscape, street and travel photography as well. This is why it’s part of my holy trinity of lenses to own. 14mm, 24mm and 50mm.
If you could only own three primes, what would they be?
