One of Sony’s best selling cameras is crazy cheap right now with these Holiday sales.
Which camera is this?
The Sony A6000. Yes, it’s still around and selling like crazy even to this day.
Right now you can get this thing for around $500 with its lens.

I point this out because this is in the price range where it might make a nice gift for someone that just wants a simple camera that they can get started on.
Sony has shuffled around the A6xxx line up quite a bit over the years to try to find the right balance of products. They’ve discontinued the A6300, and the A6500 but still offer the A6000, the A6100, the A6400, and the A6600.
What’s the difference between all of these?
The A6000 is the oldest of the series and actually has the old sensor. They updated the Sensor in the A6300, and all the new cameras since then have seen the improved sensor as well. But since the A6300 and A6500, they’ve dramatically improved the autofocus. Likely why those cameras were just cut loose from the linup.
The sensor upgrade wasn’t something super minor like going from the X-T2 to the X-T3. It’s more like going from the X-T1 to the X-T2. You’ll notice quite a difference in noise at the higher ISO between the two. But the A6000 is still a fantastic little run and gun camera especially if you like using manual lenses.
The A6600 has IBIS and a bigger battery. The A6100 was designed as an entry-level replacement to the A6000, but the A6000 still outsells it.
The A6000 has the older plastic body whereas the new cameras have the magnesium bodies and you also don’t have the cutting edge AF in the A6000.

There is still a lot of support for third-party accessories for these older cameras which is pretty surprising.
