I don't know if it's global warming or what. But the weather yesterday was amazing. The Venice Beach Pier is usually my go to spot to test out new camera gear. And I've never seen so many people here. Ever! This is also my go to surf spot. It was a zoo. Not sure if it was because of the really awesome weather which was in the 70's or the amazing sunset. Or maybe a little of both. I guess it being Christmas could have played a roll as well.
Every so often something amazing happens at the Venice Beach Pier. Usually my photos from this location come out only so so and I often don't share them. But the sun these last few days has been creating this intense orange hazed sunsets. Even at Ventura the other day. And you know what really blew me away about this photo? If you zoom in you can actually see every barnacle on the foreground piers in the shadows. I wasn't expecting that out of a single exposure pointed direclty into the sun.
I shot this photo with my Sony A7r with the Sony FE Zeiss Sonnar 35mm f2.8 Lens. I didn't think this lens would be a great landscape lens because of the vignetting but it turns it's very easy to fix. Plus vignetting becomes non issue when pointing directly into the sun.
