This guide is a complete list of all the available 4k cameras on the market that are still in production and available for sale in the United States. Well, almost every camera.
I’ll keep this guide updated as new cameras are released. It was last updated: on Feb 18, 2016.
A Complete List Of Every Camera That Shoots 4K Video
I put together a complete guide of all the available 4k options out there. I believe that the next camera you buy should be able to last you at least five years, and five years from now it’s going to be all 4k. So why not buy something that has some shelf life?
I’m sure there are a few cameras I’ve missed, but I’ll continue to add to this list as well as include external recorders, accessories, and more drones as they become available.

Sony 4K Cameras
Sony should have some more 4k cameras coming soon. I imagine the next successor to the A6000 will be 4k to compete with what Panasonic has been doing.
The Sony A7s also can only shoot 4k externally through HDMI out.

There are going to be some new 5D cameras coming. It’s possible the 5DmkIV could have 4k video. Or they might make a 5D C which will be more video-focused. But it’s hard to say. The rumor sites keep going back and forth.

A 4k Video Guide – Thoughts
It seems 4k video has already become the new standard. We’re even seeing it in mainstream media. Youtube now plays 4k and Netflix Original series all stream in 4k if you have their 4k membership. It’s only a matter of time before networks upgrade their broadcast standards to 4k.
What does that mean? It’s time to start shooting in 4K.
What’s Next? – 6K and 8K
We’re going to likely start seeing 6k and even 8k very soon. Why the jump? It’s all because of VR. If VR takes off we’re going to need even more resolution to make it all work. For example, if you’re shooting on a 360 cam or even a GoPro and you want to look around in a headset, you need all that extra resolution since you’re only looking at a portion of the scene at a time. It will be interesting to see if VR catches on for video or if it ends up being like 3D, something that was cool for a while, but never really caught on in the home when people realized they hated wearing extra glasses.
