With the announcement of the new Nintendo Switch 2, Lexar has come out ahead of the game with new microSDXC Express memory cards.
These new cards are available in sizes up to 1TB and feature read speeds of up to 900MB/s and write speeds of up to 600MB/s.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will have a 256GB internal memory at launch. However, these new microSDXC™ Express memory cards will also be required to run games efficiently; the old cards will not be compatible with the new games.
We saw this with the last generation of the Xbox and PlayStation, which required high-end memory to run some games. At least this is how my Xbox is: I can run some games and an SSD, but any new AAA game requires faster expansion memory.
Released by Nintendo, here are the specs and requirements for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 will only take microSD Express cards. These new Express cards will be backward compatible with UHS-I and UHS-II host devices but will be limited to UHS-I speeds. You can use one of these new microSD Express cards in your GoPro Hero 13 or DJI Osmo Action 4, but the speed will be limited to UHS-I.
It will probably be some time before our camera uses this new technology, but the potential of what these ultra-fast, tiny cards offer is exciting.
