My good friend Alex reviewed the Fujifilm XF35mm f1.4. If you want to see him use the lens casually on the streets of Japan, it’s a very cool video and just super chill. I think you guys will like his content since there just aren’t a lot of people that make videos in this format.
You know, normal people that are not setting up ridiculous experiments only to make things fail so that they can complain. 🙂
You can learn a lot from Alex, one thing that always impresses me is how he fearlessly approaches random people asking for portraits, it’s kind of amazing really.

Highlights From The Video
-The rubber lens cap sucks, but you can still use the regular lens cap even with the metal lens hood.
-Autofocus is more than fast enough for normal situations.
-He wouldn’t upgrade even if there was a new version of the lens.
-It’s his desert island 35mm lens.
-If you’re not shooting wide open just go with the 35mm f2 (although, I somewhat disagree with this to some extent because it’s very situational)
– Tips on approaching random people to ask for portraits.
One thing really nice about his videos is they shows normal day to day photography, and most importantly that the XF 35mm f1.4 is more than good enough at autofocus for street shooting or portraits. I know there are so many people online always demanding the absolute bleeding edge of performance from everything, but for most of us, the gear we already have or the gear that’s already out there is totally fine.
This video was shot on the BMPC. Usually he shoots on the X-H1. When I get back to Japan we’ll do some videos on the Nikon Z6 with the Ninja V so we can get that sweet, sweet 10-bit and then see how they all compare.

Are you guys in lockdown yet? I just got an email from Shinsei bank saying everything was shutting down for a month.
Not as much as in the US. Schools and public facilities (parks, libraries, etc) have been closed for over a month. Most businesses though are still open.Some restaurants are takeout only, but not many are shutdown. People here are like “Social distancing? What’s that?”
