Lexar CFexpress Type-B Memory Card Review

Lexar has two types of CFexpress Memory Cards in their lineup: the CFexpress Type B Diamond cards and the 128-2TB Gold card. These new cards offer advanced performance and expanded storage capacity for professional photographers and videographers.

Fastest CFexpress Type B card

The CFexpress Type B Diamond card is designed to meet the demanding needs of high-performance cameras and offers read speeds of up to 1900MB/s and write speeds of up to 1700MB/s. This card is compatible with Nikon, Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Canon cameras and is ideal for capturing high-quality 4K and 6K video and high-resolution photos and is capable of recording 8k60 NRAW internally with Nikon cameras.

The Diamond cards are VGP-400 certified to guarantee a 400MB/s minimum write speed and are XQD backward compatible.

Best Large Capacity CFexpress B Card

In addition to the CFexpress Type B Diamond card, Lexar has also Gold cards that range in size from 128GB to 2TB Gold. This higher capacity card has been approved for Red cinema cameras and offers faster read speeds of up to 1,900MB/s. With its massive 2TB storage capacity, the Gold card provides plenty of space for storing large files, such as 8K videos and high-resolution images.

The 2TB Gold Lexar card is one of the best-valued cards on the market when comparing performance, capacity, and price and the sizes 1TB and 2TB have a high enough sustained speed to support some of the highest video bitrates like 8K60 RAW in the Nikon cameras.

However, with the Lexar Gold cards, different sizes do run at different speeds.

Both the CFexpress Type B Diamond card and the 2TB Gold card are built with high-quality components and are rigorously tested to ensure reliable performance in even the most demanding shooting environments. With these new cards, professional photographers and videographers can capture and store their work with confidence, knowing that they have the best tools at their disposal.

Lexar CFexpress Type-B Benchmarks

Benchmarks are taken with the Lexar CFexpress reader for USB 10Gbps speeds and the OWC Thunderbolt 3 Reader for 20Gbps speeds. 4GB file sizes are tested for the USB C and TB3 read and write speeds and 64GB file sizes are tested for the Heat speeds where we see how well the cards perform when thermal throttling.

The Lexar Gold 64-256GB cards would not perform properly in the Thunderbolt readers, so I’ve listed the USB 3.2 speeds taken from a USB 3.2 reader.

Both types of cards have excellent performance with some of the fastest read speeds on the market with some very impressive sustained speeds.

You can compare the new Lexar cards to any other brand of cards in this list of the Best CFexpress Type B Memory Cards with included benchmarks – this also explains the testing methodology.

Why Lexar Is A Top Choice

Currently, Lexar remains the top brand of memory cards that I continue to recommend from in-camera benchmarks. They not only feature some of the best performances with the most features at some of the best prices but I’ve also never seen any physical issues like being too thick or melting the skin of your fingers off when they get hot as I’ve seen with some other brands.

Lexar cards come with a limited lifetime warranty.
