This is an older camera now, so many of its accessories will be discontinued.
Note: You must update the firmware as soon as you get this camera. Firmware v1.0 had that focusing issue where the camera was optimized for a sort of video-focused mode, trying to keep things smooth and slow. The new firmware includes a focus mode that lets the camera perform more like the Mark II, which is better for photography. So be sure to upgrade, and then you can ignore all those negative reviews on BHphoto and Amazon.
The firmware you want is v1.10; for more improvements, grab v1.20 for 24p. It’s still not quite to the G7X II level, but it’s a lot better.

Best Screen Protectors Canon G7X III
There are several options now for screen protectors for G7X-style cameras. Some are very affordable, and they’ll even give you a great three-pack. However, my go-to brand has been Expert Shield because I usually don’t need a three-pack; I’d rather not have more junk lying around my office hoarded in a drawer and never thrown away, because of the idea that one day I might need it. Instead, I use the one-pack by Expert Shield with a lifetime warranty.
Expert Shield Screen Protectors
Expert Shield offers a few nice options. Crystal Clear is the standard screen protector you probably have on your phone. It’s thin and protects your camera from light scratches or dings. Glass is a thicker material that provides more protection, and it isn’t as likely to peel off if you put the camera in your pocket. Anti-Glare is the same style as the crystal-clear, but it is an anti-glare material that dramatically cuts reflections. The anti-glare will degrade display quality, but sometimes that is ok. I like the Anti-Glares, and I’ve tested a few brands, but I had to come back to Expert Shield because the others reduced image quality too much. |
