Fujifilm X100F Lens Hood Review – JJC LH-JX100 II

The Fujifilm X100F, or any of the X100 series of cameras, is one of the best cameras out there to customize with different accessories. This allows people to really build a camera unique to their taste in fashion or style of shooting.

Lens hoods are a popular accessory for the X100f, and a new one was released around the same time as the X100F. That’s the JJCLC-JX100 II – not to be confused with version I, which has a hood that flares out a bit more.

Fujifilm Lens Hood Review – JJC LH-JX100 II

This lens hood is of the style that has the inverted flare. This is cool because it’s a little more compact and stays on the hood a bit better than their version I.

It also comes in both silver and black, which you can see here on Amazon.

X100F JJC LH-JX100 II Silver – Amazon

X100F JJC LH-JX100 II Black – Amazon

The X100F filter size you’ll need for this is 49mm.

This lens hood is made of aluminum and is anodized in either black or silver to match the trim of your camera.

What else is cool about this new design, is the original Fujifilm X100F lens hood can be mounted over the hood for extra protection when traveling.

In my opinion, this is probably the best lens hood you can get for the X100F in terms of what you get for how much you pay.

What I like to do with these JJC lens hoods, is to remove the physical hood so I’m left with the adapter ring that allows for a UV filter. I feel this adapter ring provides adequate stray light protection, so I can embrace a little flare when it happens. This is how a lot of people, including myself use the X100F with UV filters.

Without this adapter ring, you cannot correctly use a UV filter on the X100F.

Another reason I don’t personally use a hood portion of this kit is because I’ve found that Fujifilm lenses are well-built with really nice coatings ,so any flare is very well controlled. Especially on the X100F.

I’ll try to break down and review more accessories for the X100F like this one. Every accessory for the X100F seems to have some unique feature to it like this one and they make for some fun reviews.

Keep in mind, you can also use this lens hood on the X100s, X100T or even the original X100.

To see all the other great stuff that can be added to your X100F, check out my X100F accessories page and my Fuji X100F review.

Hey ! Thanks for your reviews !! I’m just about to get the X100F and using your reviews to gear it up…

I don’t understand something about the JJC LH-JX100 II Lens Hood.. I’m also going to get a B+W 49mm XS-Pro Clear MRC Nano filter, but wondering if I’ll be able to hook it up on the lens, along with the hood, or will it be either the hood OR the filter ? Thanks a lot for your great reviews 🙂

The filter has two parts to it, one is the UV filter adapter, the other is the actual hood. The UV filter attaches to that adapter. You can see it in the images when the hood is off. You can’t have the UV attached directly to the lens or it doesn’t focus correctly so you need that adapter. A lot of times I run around with just the adapter and not the hood.

So with that lens hood kit, you can have LENS -> Adapter -> Filter -> Hood ? Can the hood screw in the filter ? It seems from your photos that it’s either the filter OR the hood… am I getting this wrong? Thanks again!!

Yes is Lens -> Adapter -> Filter -> Hood. The hood actually mounts over the adapter so the UV filter stays on at all times.

I have had a gnarly start with the X100F. First sample was returned from terrible focusing issues. Second one the sd card slot failed, card would not stay put. Sent it in for repair and the entire board of the camera needed to be replaced. Hopefully I am over the hump.

      Well that’s not good news.

You know, I’ve had a few issues with Fujifilm myself. Still need to mend my X100F in for the sticky shutter issues. Every so often Fujifilm puts out these lemons. Everyone says they have some of the best buids, but I’ve sent two lenses in and two cameras in. 🙂 But I guess I’ve had issues with Sony too. I’m just unlucky. 🙂

Also, just in case, make sure you put the UV filter on an adapter and not directly on the lens. That will cause focus issues.

    Hello Alik,

    many thanks for the review!

    I have two questions:
    1) You wrote on the review:
“What else is cool about this new design, is the original Fujifilm X100F lens hood can be mounted over the hood for extra protection when traveling” Did you meant the original Fujifilm Lens Hood or the protection filter?

    2) When only using the adapter and UV filter, can you still use the original lens cap or a third party lens cap?

    Regards.

What I meant with that first one, is I was talking about the lens cover not the lens hood, i miss worded it.There is no lens hood that comes with the camera. But the lens cover / cap does slide over the top of that little lens hood that flares in.

I think the lens cap should still slide over the UV filter adapter with the filter installed as well. But I i’ve never done that before since you don’t really need the lens cap if your using the UV filter. I can’t find my lens cap though. Must still be in my box with all my stuff back in California. I only could find my JJC lens hood. The aperture actually remains closed on this camera so the only reason you would need a cap if you’re using a UV filter is to protect the UV filter.

        Many thanks for your answer!
To use the lens cap to protect the UV filter was exactly my intention. I usually transport the camera on a quite small NG A1212 pouch and I am concerned of scratching the UV filter when inserting the camera in the pouch.

I see. it should work, if not grab a cheap 49mm lens cap. Fujifilm makes one called the Fujifilm FLCP-49 or grab a third party brand. It should work as long as the UV filter you buy has some lip to it, that is, if the original lens cover doesn’t work, which I think it will.

Ok just talked to a buddy who has the same setup. He said his OEM lens cap does not fit over the UV filter.

His setup is actually not the same. It looks like the lens hood would fit over my setup. Definitely try it before ordering your lens cap.
