A massive list of all the best and most essential accessories and gear for the Canon RP.
Must-Have Accessories Canon RP | The Essentials
Best Screen Protectors Canon RP
Since the Canon RP has a folding screen, you can fold in the LCD portion so that it remains protected during transport, so if you’re careful, you may not need a screen protector. But, I still use them on my EOS R because accidents do happen. If you decide to use a screen protector on the Canon RP, here is the best brand.
Expert Shield Cannon SL3 Screen Protector
Expert Shield is the best brand of screen protectors and they provide a few nice options. Crystal Clear, Glass or Anti-Glare. Crystal Clear is the lightweight screen protector that you’re used to. It protects from simple scratches and dings. The Glass screen protectors are a little thicker and they protect from bigger hits and scratches. Anti-glare is great for reducing reflections, but it does degrade the colors and contrast a little. |
Best Batteries Canon RP & Third-Party
The Canon RP actually uses different batteries from its big brother the R. So if you have both cameras you will need new batteries for the RP.
Canon LP-E17 Official Batteries
The Canon LP-E17 is the official batteries for the Canon RP. This is the same battery used in the entry-level DSLRs like the Canon SL3. The RP is a mirrorless camera and will use a bit more power than you’re used to if you’re coming from DSLRs so you may want more than one. If you like using official batteries this is going to be the best battery you can buy. But since the camera does come with one battery, you can safely use third-party batteries as your backups. |
Wasabi LP-E17 Third-Party Batteries
One of my favorite third-party battery brands is Wasabi. They are based out of California and use Japanese battery cells. Their batteries last a long time and have always been one of the most reliable third-party battery brands. This two-pack comes with a little charging station with a wall adapter. I like the wall charger, but they also make an option that has a USB adapter that can sit on your desk. |
Best Memory Cards
I’ve tested all the most popular UHS-I and UHS-II memory cards in the new Canon RP. This will take UHS-II memory cards, and because the camera shots at such a slow frame rate, you can get a bottomless buffer with UHS-II cards. In other words, you can shoot continuously forever at the fastest frame rate the RP offers. But of course, for casual shooting UHS-I cards are totally fine.
Canon RP Cases & Straps
Leather Half Case
I usually throw my cameras in leather half cases to add to the grip and to protect the camera. Gariz has made a nice one for the RP.
Gariz Leather Half Case For The RP
The Gariz genuine leather half cases for the EOS RP is a leather grip case with an aluminum base plate. The base plate does give you access to the battery door and it protects the bottom of your camera from scratches and dings. For the RP you have two color choices, brown or black. I like these cases because they extend the grip a little more and protect the camera body a little from bumps and scratches. |
Canon EOS RP Bags
There are a lot of great bags out there for carrying your camera around. The Peak Design Every Day Sling (Amazon) is actually a popular bag. But I don’t want to bog this list down with all the different great bags that are out there. Instead, I will show you a few bags that I use constantly in conjunction with my other bag. I often just use a backpack or a suitcase and it’s nice to have some extra bags around that I can throw a camera body or lens in and these Mirrorless Mover bags by ThinkTank are great for that. And they aren’t too expensive like the premium Peak Design stuff.
ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover
Check out the Mirrorless Mover bags, they come in several different sizes ad colors at different prices which are all very affordable. The 5 might be too small for the RP unless you’re just packing the body and no lens, or you could fit just a small lens in it. The 20 should allow you to pack the camera with a lens. This all depends on what lenses you end up going with though.

Camera Straps
The Canon EOS RP uses the traditional Canon style strap logs so you will have to be a little careful that the straps you buy work with these. I like to use the Peak Design Clutch on my cameras along with the peak design straps to build a sort of modular system and I change around quickly for my different needs.
Peak Design Clutch
This is what I use for my primary camera. This hand strap connects to the Canon RP lugs and comes with a plate that you mount for the bottom. The bottom plate and the top of the strap provide you with areas to connect the bigger peak design staps with those little quick connection ties. When I’m traveling around I can connect the strap, then when I’m shooting I take off the strap and just go with the handgrip. It’s a system I really enjoy and I highly recommend it. This even comes with an Arca-swiss base plate so the camera is always ready to go on a tripod. |
Peak Design Strap
Peak Design makes a lot of different sizes and styles of straps. The Canon RP is a fairly small and lightweight camera so you probably don’t need a very heavy strap. I personally use the medium size strap and it works great with the Clutch system. It works great on my EOS R so it will also work great on the RP. |
Cleaning Accessories
Cleaning accessories are some accessories you often overlook then hate yourself for not having them. Since the EOS RP is a mirrorless camera you’re going to have to get a little bit better about maintaining the sensor and keeping it free of dust.
Here are a few of the best cleaning accessories that I like to use regularly.
Rocket Air Blaster
The rocket air blasters are one of the most important accessories a photographer can have. Using air blasters is critical for cleaning off the sensor from dust and debris and it’s also the easiest way to clean the sensor. I own several of these and I always pack one in my bag if I know I’m going to be changing my lenses on location. Don’t forget to keep the back of your lens caps clean. Pro-tip: if you have toddlers running around putting everything in their mouths, be sure to always give the thing a few blasts before using it on your sensor. Little kids love to play with these if they can get their hands on them and I once used mine on a lens and blasted a bunch of baby spit right onto the front element. |
Micro-Fiber Cleaning Cloths 6-Pack
While a T-shirt is fine for cleaning off your lens or rear LCD screen out on the go, it’s really nice to have some micro-fiber cleaning cloths to give your gear a thorough cleaning before or after shooting. These won’t leave dust and lint on your lenses like clothing will and this is really the only way to perfectly clean a UV filter before installing it on your lens. |
Sensor Brush
You’ll eventually find that you get little pieces of dust stuck to your sensor that just don’t want to come off with the air blaster. The next step is to use a sensor brush. I highly recommend you try a sensor brush before you run out and buy the sensor swabs to clean with the wet method. 99% of the time you don’t need to use the wet method on your sensor unless you have oil on it from touching it. You have to keep these packed in their tube and in their bag to keep it as clean as possible. Use the air blaster to clean the bristols before applying it to your sensor. |
