A great way to enhance the Nikon Z9’s shooting capabilities is to pair it with some great accessories. There are so many great accessories out there, and this list will cover some of the essentials.

Here are my top recommendations for accessories to use with the Nikon Z9.

Nikon Z9 – Amazon / Adorama / B&H

Nikon Z Mount Lenses – This is a list of all the lenses available for the Nikon Z system, including third-party lenses.

Table Of Contents

  • 1. Screen Protector
    • ULBTER Screen Protector – 2-Pack 0.3mm 9H Hardness
  • 2. Batteries For Nikon Z9
    • Official Battery For Nikon Z9 – Nikon EN-EL18d
    • Wasabi Power Third-Party Battery For Nikon EN-EL18d
    • Cables For Charging or Powering Your Nikon
  • 3. Memory Cards
  • 4. Grips / Cases
  • 5. Diffusion Filters
  • 6. Straps
    • Full Straps Synthetic
    • Full Leather Strap
  • 7. Cleaning Supplies
    • Micro Fiber Cleaning Cloths 6-Pack

1. Screen Protector

ULBTER Screen Protector – 2-Pack 0.3mm 9H Hardness

2 Rear Screen Protectors + 2 Top Screen Protectors

The ULBTER Z9 Screen Protector 2-Pack is an excellent choice for photographers who need screen protection for their Z9. This pack comes with two pieces of tempered glass, both 0.3mm thick and rated 9H hardness, to protect the main screen and the top display. The included extra screen protector offers added value, as screen protectors can be prone to damage over time.

Glass screen protectors can be very difficult to remove once they’ve been on for a while, so when replacing them, I usually apply gentle heat from a hair dryer before removal.

2. Batteries For Nikon Z9

The Nikon Z9 uses the Nikon EN-EL18d Lithium-Ion Battery battery.

Nikon EN-EL18d Battery

Official Battery For Nikon Z9 – Nikon EN-EL18d

The Nikon EN-EL18d Battery is the Z9’s official Li-ion battery. It has 3300 mAh and 36 Wh of power at 10.8V. Serious photographers should keep extra batteries. Official batteries are better for professional video or photography. They prevent compatibility problems and firmware issues that may affect the battery’s performance. Some third-party batteries may have these issues with some camera brands.

  • Battery Capacity: 3300 mAh / 36 Wh
  • Output: 10.8 VDC
Amazon
Wasabi EN-EL18d For Nikon Z9

Wasabi Power Third-Party Battery For Nikon EN-EL18d

1 Battery

The Wasabi EN-EL18d is a good third-party battery for your Nikon camera. Wasabi makes quality batteries and has a reputation for reliability.

  • Battery Capacity: 3350mAh
  • Output: 10.8 VDC
Amazon

Cables For Charging or Powering Your Nikon

To power your Nikon Z9 externally with a cable, turn off the camera and enable “USB power delivery” in the setup menu. It would be best to have a cable and a wall adapter or charger that can deliver at least 36W.

Powering powerful cameras like the Nikon Z9 can be tricky. It would be best if you had PD-compliant USB cables and adapters. Apple Macbook adapters usually work, but some third-party ones may have issues. You also need to check the wattage. Some adapters and cables are only 18W, which is too low. I recommend using something with at least 45W. Any Amazon brand that can power a Macbook should work for your camera.

3. Memory Cards

Lexar Diamond CFexpress Type B

Dust Patrol – Sensor Cleaning Brush

1 Full Frame Sensor Brush + 3 Chamber Swabs + Storage Tube

I tested many memory cards for the Nikon Z9. Some cards, like Angelbird, are too thick, and some old cards are incompatible. Check this guide for the best cards.

4. Grips / Cases

There are a few options for additional cases and grips for the Nikon Z9, so this list will be short until I find something better.

SmallRig Camera Cage for Nikon Z9

This aluminum Camera Cage from SmallRig is for your Nikon Z9 camera. It fits your camera and lets you access its features, battery, and SD card slot. It has many mounting options. The camera stays in the cage with three screws and rubber pads.

5. Diffusion Filters

Moment CineBloom

Moment CineBloom Diffusion Filter

Moment Cinebloom Diffusion Filters give your night cityscape photos and videos a cinematic touch. The uncoated glass makes them brighter and more reflective, creating a different look from coated filters. These filters have brass threads for easy use. I prefer 10% power for general photography, but this reduces the light by almost 1/3 of a stop.

Tiffen Black Pro Mist

Tiffen Black Pro Mist Filter

The Tiffen Black Pro-Mist filter is stylish and versatile, improving your photos and videos. It has nanoparticles that make a soft diffusion effect. It smooths highlights, lowers contrast, and gives your shots a cinematic feel. It works well in hard lighting and makes a beautiful halo effect. It has brass filter threads that keep it secure on your lens. If you are new to this filter, try a power of 1/4. It has a noticeable effect but is not too strong, and you lose less than 1/3 of the light stops.

It also sparkles when viewed, adding confidence to your shooting. It is ideal for portraits, landscapes, and night scenes.

6. Straps

Using a strap on a Nikon Z9 provides a comfortable and secure way to carry the camera. With various styles and materials to choose from, the strap allows the photographer to personalize their camera while ensuring ease of access and peace of mind when carrying the camera for extended periods. Whether shooting while traveling or shooting portraits, a strap allows for comfortable handling and added stability, making it a must-have accessory for any photographer using the Nikon Z9.

Full Leather Strap

For those who prefer a touch of luxury and durability, leather camera straps are a great choice for the Nikon Z9. While pricier, these straps are made of genuine leather and offer longevity with proper care and maintenance.

There are a few leather straps that I’ve liked over the years and think will work well for the Nikon Z9
