Viltrox has three new autofocus f1.4 lenses coming to the Fujifilm X-Mount.

Here are some basic specs pulled from Fujirumors that I’ve put in a comparison table against the Fujifilm lenses so you can see the difference.

As you know the Fujifilm 35mm is optical magic, and you can see Fujifilm did this by using fewer elements which helps produce a more classic / higher micro-contrast look.

The Fujinon 56mm is also an f1.2 compared to the f1.4 Viltrox.

The 23mm looks pretty comparable when looking at element count, but it does have a 9-bladed aperture compared to 7 but the Fujifilm lens has a 62mm front filter which means the lens is a bit thicker.

Will This Solve The Problem With The X System?

I think it’s pretty clear to just about every Fujifilm shooter that Fujifilm needs to update their f1.4 and f1.2 lenses to improve the speed at which the lens’s autofocus system communicates with the cameras. This would allow us to reliably use our lenses in AF-C mode.

Will Viltrox be the answer to this call?

Maybe not. But fingers crossed.

I’m not sure if Viltrox has properly licensed the X-Mount code or if they have hacked it. I think they hacked it because the first version of the Viltrox 85mm autofocus lens for the X mount had a lot of autofocus issues and they had to release an update to fix it.

While I would love a series of f1.4 lenses with 2020 autofocus capabilities, I’m not getting my hopes up yet. I will, however, buy these lenses and review them.

The question is? Will they have the Fujifilm secret sauce? Let’s hope so, but they will most likely be good.

Viltrox is doing something right with their optical formulas if Tokina is using the same design in their new 85mm lens.

After hours of more research I sprung for the X-E5. Did you end up trying these lenses? I shoot prime and the price point is killer on these viltrox. I don’t think the 23mm 2.8 pancake that came with it will scratch all my itches.

I only have the Viltrox AF 15mm and the TTArtisans AF 27mm, both are great. Viltrox lenses, for the most part, are a solid option. I’ve used the 35mm and the 135mm on my Nikon, and both were solid lenses for the price.
