Using The Sony A7r II – Is It A Great Camera?

As part of my Voigtlander 35mm f1.7 review, I took a stroll down to the Walt Disney Concert Hall to get some test shots. The truth is, the Japanese Consulate is right there and I had to bring my half-Japanese daughter there to get some paperwork done. I paid for two hours of parking so took the rest of that time to shoot. This was my first chance to use my Sony A7r II for something other than landscape work. Usually, or I should say, always when I go and just shoot for fun, I take a Fujifilm with me. They're just more fun to use and you can shoot JPEG with them with great results, so post-processing isn't as heavy.

Voigtlander 35mm f1.7 Ultron Review

The Voigtlander 35mm f1.7 is a great lens for those who want something relatively compact, without having to sacrifice amazing image quality. It's not the smallest 35mm lens you can buy, but it's not the biggest either. It's in that sweet spot. And while there are faster lenses out there, the f1.7 is still a great place to be at, especially for a lens this size.

I hate that I didn't buy this lens sooner. It's a perfect match for the Sony A7(r)(s) II series of cameras both old and new and I'm absolutely in love with it. The lens is only F4, but I would like to think a lens like this would be used mostly by landscape or architecture photographers where wider apertures would not really be needed. But for those occasions when you do need the lens in low light and are going handheld, the OSS saves the day. There are a lot of things I love about this lens, and very few things I don't like, making this lens one of my favorite, go-to lenses with the Sony A7r II.

Los Angeles And The Observatory – Canon 5DSR

This is a quick shot of the Observatory. I wanted to test out the Canon 5DSR so I hiked up the mountain overlooking Los Angeles. This was my first time up and wow, what a view! If you ever visit Los Angeles this is something you must do. Just bring a long lens. I shot this with the Canon 70-200 but did a pretty mean crop. But hey, that's what having 50 megapixels is for right?

Fujifilm MCEX-11 Review & Sample Photos

For those that don't know, the MCEX-11 adapter will convert any lens into a macro lens. It's a cool little tool, it's not as good as having a real macro lens, but can let you do fun little projects like this one.

Tongva Park – Sony A7r II

I've passed through the Tongva park a few times while on my way to shoot the Santa Monica Pier, but never actually shot here. I would always see these lookout structures and thought they might be cool to shoot through. So a few nights ago, I finally made an attempt to come here but unfortunately, I couldn't find parking because of some event which caused me to miss the sunset. So it is in Los Angeles. You just have to add on an hour anything you want to do around here.

LIM’S Leather Case Review – Sony A7rII / A7II

A half case might be a smart choice if you want to protect your Sony A7r II better. I have leather cases on most of my mirrorless cameras and they are all great. The LIM’S genuine leather half case is also awesome. The LIM’S Leather Cases for the Sony A7rII are well-made. They have many cool colors but I chose the black and red. The case makes the camera heavier but also more sturdy and safe.
