Must-Have Accessories | Canon M6 Mark II

  • February 11, 2020
  • AGriffin

Here is a huge list of some of the best brands of accessories for the Canon M6 II, a versatile little beast of a camera.

I’ve also included a few nice vlogging accessories like camera cages so you can easily mount mics, lights or additional monitors.

Canon EOS M6 Mark II – Amazon / Adorama / BHphoto

Best Accessories Canon M6 Mark II

Best Screen Protectors Canon M6 Mark II

To start the list I will begin with the most important item. A screen protector. I’ve tested so many different brands and there are a lot of great ones, but my personal favorite that I keep coming back to is Exper Shield.

Expert Shield Screen Protector

Best Screen Protector Canon M6 Mark IIAvailable At: Amazon

Expert Shield offers a few different types of screen protectors. You can choose from Glass for maximum durability, Crystal Clear for a light scratch-resistant screen, or anti-glare which is great for outdoor shooters, but it will reduce the screen quality some.

I personally use all three depending on how I plan on using my camera. For casual shooting, I just go with crystal clear, for more rugged landscape photography, I like the glass. For street photography, I go with anti-glare.

*A few people were having trouble with this on Amazon, I’ll keep an eye on the reviews, I’ve never seen problems before with these ever that wasn’t user error. Try the glass instead of the crystal clear if you are concerned about the screen sticking.

Best Batteries Canon M6 Mark II

You will definitely need a few batteries for the Canon M6. Depending on how much I use my cameras depends on how I like to configure things here. For example, I like having enough official batteries to get me through one normal day of shooting. Usually, one battery is fine here. Then I like to carry at least 2 backup third-party batteries.

With the Canon M6 II, you’ll most likely be able to get buy with just the Canon battery that is included and a few third-party batteries.

Canon M6 II Official Battery LP-E17

Best Batteries Canon M6 IIAvailable At: Amazon

This is the official battery for the Canon M6 II. You almost always get longer life with the official batteries and they the least likely to ever give you issues. Especially if you’re running AF adapters, external EVFs or flashes. The Canon batteries will just work.

Here are the best third-party batteries.

Wasabi Batteries

Great Third-party batteriesAvailable At: Amazon

Wasabi batteries are usually my go-to battery for third-party brands. They aren’t usually quite as good as the official Canon batteries but they are close. I find with most third-party brands, that the batteries usually perform best after they’ve been fully charged and discharged a few times. I would say about three to five.

RavPower Batteries

Best Third Party Batteries by RavPowerAvailable At: Amazon

Another brand I’ve been using a lot is RavPower. Like Wasabi, they also make very good third-party batteries. I like the design of their charging cases a little more than RavPower. RavPower also makes some great battery banks which I prefer over Anker.

Best Memory Cards

I’ve tested all the most popular memory cards in the Canon M6 II. This camera takes UHS-II cards so check the speeds and the recommendations in my guide.

Canon M6 Mark II Cases & Body Accessories

I’m still waiting for a few cases to come online, but so far here are your best options.

Camera Rigs

Here are a few of the best vlogging rigs that you will need to build out the M6 II for video or filmmaking. SmallRig is the best brand when it comes to this stuff, but there are a few cheaper alternatives.

SmallRig Full Body Cage

M6 mark II SmallRig CageAvailable At: Amazon

If you’re looking for a full filmmaker rig that you can attach a ton of accessories to, then SmallRig is the best brand. This full cage lets you attach external mics, monitors, tripods or grips. It also leaves a spot open so you can still access the battery.

SmallRig Vlogging Cold Shoe Plate

Canon m6 II cold shoe plate Available At: Amazon

If you want to mount a mic off to the side of the camera so you can still use the flippy screen than you’ll need this Cold Shoe Rig. There are two different cold shoe mounts for mics or wireless receivers.

Leather Cases

I’m still waiting for all the third-party leather cases to be released for the M6 II. At the time of writing this list, there are none available. I’ll update as they roll in.

Carrying Cases

There are a million options for carrying cases and I’ve used several great ones by Peak design or Lowepro. There is one set of cases I want to share with you because they are so useful and I still use them for everything. They come in various sizes so I can use them to compartmentalize my suitcases or backpacks. They’re just great for cameras this size or for lenses.

ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover

Canon M6II CasesAvailable At: Amazon

The ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover cases come in various sizes and colors I’ve been using them for years. Sometimes I’ll use them as a primary shoulder bag but usually, I use them for packing my camera or lenses safely in my other bags. I highly recommend you look at these for this reason. They are just handy to have. I have the Mirrorless mover 5, 10, and 20. The 5 I use the most to pack small lenses but M6 II will fit into it without a lens attached. You’ll probably want the 10 or the 20 if you use to pack the M6 with a lens attached. Depending on the size of your lens of course.

Cleaning Accessories

Cleaning accessories are one set of accessories you don’t want to overlook and having the right gear here can make a huge difference.

I’ll list some cleaning accessories I use frequently.

Rocket Air Blaster

rocket air blaster for cleaningAvailable At: Amazon

These are a must-have. You just have to have some sort of air blaster if you won an interchangeable lens camera. If you have any sort of dust on your lens or sensor, this is the fastest and safest way to clear it off. I use these regularly, almost daily and I own several of them.

Micro-Fiber Cleaning Cloths 6-Pack

6-pack micro fiber cleaning clothAvailable At: Amazon

I go through these like baby wipes. These are just so handy to have and having fresh ones on hand is always important. Eventually, the cleaning cloths will get oily or dusty and you’ll need to throw them out.

While I often use my T-Shirt mostly for wiping my lenses and UV filters clean while in the field, it’s nice to have good cleaning cloths for critical cleaning. These will clean a UV filter or lens without leaving behind all the lint and dust like a T-Shirt will.

Sensor Brush

Sensor brushAvailable At: Amazon

A lot of people will scare you with the dangers of cleaning your sensor and recommend terrible products. Really you don’t need much to clean your sensor, and as long as you haven’t touched it or gotten oil on it, a sensor brush is all you ever need to get annoying dust or debris off.

Keep these sensor brushes in their bag and blast them a few times with the rocket air above before applying them to your sensor. They work so well. Don’t mess with the wet method or those sticky gels sticks.

Best Accessories Canon M6 Mark II Conclusions

These are all my favorite accessories that I think are must-have items. Especially those cleaning accessories. That sensor brush is like my little secret magic that nobody ever talks about and I’m so glad I discovered it a few years ago.

The Canon M6 II is a really cool versatile camera and you can kit it out in so many different ways. I’ll continue to add to this list as new accessories roll in.
