This guide will walk you through some of the accessories I like using on my cameras, which will also work great for the Canon R6 Mark II.

1. Screen Protectors
The Canon EOS R6 Mark II screen is already really nice, and you could live without a screen protector because it folds back for protection. However, using one just in case is usually a good idea. I’ve broken screens in the past, and it’s never fun having to send them in for repair.

3. Batteries and Battery Grips
There is a newest battery for the Canon R6 and R6 Mark II, which is even newer than what we had on the Canon R5.
Official Batteries Canon LP-E6PThe Canon E6P batteries represent the latest addition to the Canon system. They are very similar to the LP-E6NH batteries in terms of specs, and it’s unclear what the changes exactly are. These batteries were released with the new Canon R5 II. It’s likely the battery responds better to transients from a higher dynamic load and could potentially benefit even older cameras. However, a firmware update will be required for this battery. Best Third-Party Batteries
My favorite third-party battery is the style that can be charged via USB-C directly. I have a few batteries like this, some from Wasabi and some from SmallRig. Both are excellent, and I love the convenience of being able to charge these batteries with a USB-C cable. This means you can just charge them with a battery bank when out in the field.
SMALLRIG LP-E6NH Batteries The Small Rig LP-E6NH batteries are modeled after the LP-E6NH series of Canon batteries and are compatible with the Canon R5, R6, and R6 Mark II cameras. These batteries are equipped with USB-C fast charging and are fully decoded. Rating: 2400mAh /Voltage: 7.2 volts /WH: 17.28Wh |
Battery Grips
There are a few different battery grips Canon makes for their R6 II. The BG-R10 is more of a standard grip that holds two batteries and provides all the basic functionality you would expect. Then there is the WFT-R10A Battery Grip, which has a few more professional features like LAN and Wifi.
Canon BG-R20 Vertical Battery GripThe BG-R20 is the latest battery grip for the Canon R5, R5 II, R6, and R6 II cameras. Like the camera body, this battery grip is fully weather-sealed and features shutter and dial controls. It provides the convenience of using an additional battery. You’ll also need this battery if you want high-speed shooting options in the Canon R5 II. The older BG-R10 would not allow some of these features. For the Canon R6 II, you can use the BG-R20 grip with the older LP-E6NH batteries without losing any functionality. You’ll need to use Canon LP-E6N and Canon LP-E6NH batteries or the newest LP-E6P batteries. |
4. Body Cases
SmallRig Camera Cage For Canon R6 Mark IISmallRig Camera Cages enhance your camera’s versatility by accommodating additional video accessories while protecting the body. Their modular system allows for easy expansion, enabling you to gradually augment your setup after establishing the foundation with a basic cage configuration. While you think you might only need this for videography, they are actually great for photography as well. I’ll use these cages to add extra grips to attract extra lights or mount a flash-off to the side. I love these cages and will always use them on my cameras now. |
5. Camera Straps
The Canon mirrorless system benefits greatly from the diverse range of options offered by Peak Design straps. The Clutch hand strap is my go-to choice, often accompanied by an additional strap for convenience and functionality.
Peak Design Clutch Camera StrapThe Peak Design Clutch system is a convenient hand strap that lets photographers attach a full strap and fits perfectly with a Canon R6 II. I used this on my Canon R for years. It is particularly advantageous as it eliminates the need to carry a full strap constantly and makes it easy to attach or detach one. Additionally, the system features an Arca Swiss base plate. Available At: B&H |
Peak Design Slide LitePeak Design’s seatbelt-style straps are known for their exceptional durability, bordering on indestructibility. Regarding the Canon R6 Mark II, the ideal strap thickness depends on your lens type. For most situations, the medium or thin version would be suitable. However, if you frequently work with heavier lenses, opting for the medium-thickness or even the thick strap would provide added comfort and stability. Available At: B&H |
