Sandisk Extreme Pro 280MB/s UHS-II Review

  • Alik Griffin
  • November 13, 2017
The Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-II 280MB/s was Sandisks first UHS-II card. Like the Lexar 1000x, it's age shows. It does however still performs faster than the Lexar 1000x in most devices. While this card is a pretty good UHS-II memory card, it performs rather poorly in UHS-I devices. This card has also been discontinued so if you do find a copy make sure you're buying it to only be used in UHS-II cameras.

Samsung Pro U3 SD Memory Card Review

  • Alik Griffin
  • November 13, 2017

The Samsung Pro U3 is a great card for the price. It performs about the same as the Sandisk Extreme Plus. Where as the Samsung Pro+ performs close to the Sandisk Extreme Pro.  This makes the Samsung card great for cameras that don't demand a super fast memory card, or cameras that are more video focused. I was even fast enough for 4k in the Canon 5D IV, which puts out a crazy high bitrate video of 500MB/s. Albeit, The Samsung Pro was on the boarder of acceptable and I recommend a faster card for that camera. But every other camera this card should work great with except Sony. Sony cameras have compatibility issues with Samsung cards.

PNY Elite Performance U1 SD Memory Card Review

  • Alik Griffin
  • December 15, 2023

PNY (Paris New York) has made memory cards for some time and can be considered a trusted brand. The PNY Elite Performance U1 memory card is one of the best cards for the price. It doesn't perform quite as quick as some of the best cards from brands like Sandisk, but it comes pretty close.  There are a few versions of the Elite Performance card, this is the older one. There is a new U3 PNY memory card that is slightly slower, but sustains a guaranteed 30MB/s write. This U1 version is only guaranteed to sustain 10MB/s.

PNY Elite Performance U3 SD Memory Card Review

PNY cards have been known for being a less expensive option while still putting out great performance. Compared to other brands, the PNY cards are a midrange card. In terms of performance, they aren't super fast, but they aren't slow either. Sometimes some Sony cameras have issues with them but other than that, they are fairly reliable and one of the best bangs for the buck.

Sony U3 SD Memory Card Review

  • Alik Griffin

Sony makes a great midrange UHS-I SD memory card. Actually these cards are my number one recommendation for Sony shooters who want to have reliable XAVC S 4k video capabilities. A lot of times Sony cameras just don't like other cards and it seems to be completely random to have a camera that likes other brands cards or not. In terms of speed and performance, Sony memory cards are about midrange.

Lexar 633X SD Memory Card Review

  • Alik Griffin
  • November 13, 2017

Lexar has always been known to make great UHS-II memory cards. The Lexar 2000x is one of the best UHS-II memory cards available to date. Their 633X UHS-I card however, is only just decent. It's not slow, it's just not fast compared to what the other memory card titans have to offer.  Lexar cards will become more increasingly difficult to find as they have been discontinued as a brand.
