A massive list of all the best and top essential accessories for the Canon 90D.
Best Accessories Canon 90D | The Essentials
Best Screen Protector Canon 90D
There are many brands of screen protectors, but I mostly go to Expert Shield for my cameras. The reason is they have several styles to choose from and they’re all good. I’ve tried some anti-glare screen protectors by other brands that were just too milky so I came back to Expert Shield. For my expensive cameras, I like to use the Glass protectors, for my cameras that I shoot a lot from the LCD I like to use Anti-Glare, but anti-glare will still reduce the visual quality of the LCD image a little.
Expert Shield Screen Protector 90DAvailable At: Amazon Expert Shield Screen protectors have a lifetime warranty, so if it ever falls off or you fail to install it, you just contact them and they send you a new one. They offer three styles, Glass, Crystal Clear and Anti-Glare. |
Best Batteries Canon 90D
Your old LP-E6 batteries will still work, but there is a new battery the LP-E6N that Canon is using now.
Canon Official Batteries LP-E6NHAvailable At: B&H The Canon 90D uses the LP-E6NH Canon batteries. This is the official battery by Canon, the same style they’ve used for over a decade with some minor upgrades to allow charging while inside the camera. The Canon official batteries are the best, they are the most reliable and last the longest. One battery is usually fine for casual shooting but if you’re shooting video you might want a couple. For backup batteries, I like to use third-party brands. |
Best Memory Cards
I’ve put all the most popular memory cards through an in-camera speed comparison in the Canon 90D to see which cards are the fastest and which perform the best.
You can find a few great recommended memory cards at different price points.

Canon 90D Cases & Grips
Canon 90D Vertical Battery Grip DG-E14The Canon 90D uses the DG-E14 battery grip. This is the same grip that was designed for the 70D and 80D. I found this bundle that comes with two batteries at the same cost as the stand-alone grip. The batteries it comes with are LP-E6 batteries, not LP-E6N. The E6 batteries do still work in the 90D, you just can’t charge them through the camera’s USB port. |
There is also a popular third-party vertical grip by DSTE.
Canon 90D Protective Silicone CoverAvailable At: Amazon If you need to Ruggify your 90d, these Silicone covers can come in handy. I would typically use these as a daily driver, but if you’re ever going somewhere where you need some extra grip or protection, throwing one of these over the body is not a bad idea. These cases are not really permanent solutions, they’ll last for a while but eventually, they stretch and wear out. So just know that going into it so you can appreciate it for what it is . . . a camera condom. |
Canon 90D Straps
There are so many great straps for cameras now and I won’t be able to list them all. Instead, I’ll list what’s been working very well for me.
I use the Peak Design Clutch hand strap with a Peak Design slide strap. The Clutch comes with a thin Arca-swiss base plate so I can always throw the camera on a tripod, then I can attach a Peak Design Slide Strap directly to this setup. Because of their proprietary ties, I can easily take the strap on and off without removing the handgrip.
Peak Design ClutchAvailable At: Amazon The peak Design clutch attaches perfectly to the Canon-style lugs, then you attach it to the base of the camera with a thin arca-swiss base plate. With this plate, you can add another tie so that you can attach a Peak Design strap. |
Peak Design Slide StrapAvailable At: Amazon Peak Design offers its slide-style strap in a few colors and sizes. I’m using what could be considered the medium size which is pretty much perfect for medium-sized cameras like the 90D. But if you’re going to use big lenses and a vertical grip, you might want a thicker strap for more comfort. |
Camera Cleaning Gear
Here is just a quick list of all the essential cleaning gear you should grab.
For a full list of even more items that I like, check out my guide to camera cleaning.
Rocket Air BlasterAvailable At: Amazon These are a must-have. You just have to have some sort of air blaster if you won an interchangeable lens camera. If you have any sort of dust on your lens or sensor, this is the fastest and safest way to clear it off. I use these regularly, almost daily and I own several of them. |
Micro-Fiber Cleaning Cloths 6-PackAvailable At: Amazon I go through these like baby wipes. These are just so handy to have and having fresh ones on hand is always important. Eventually, the cleaning cloths will get oily or dusty and you’ll need to throw them out. While I often use my T-shirt mostly for wiping my lenses and UV filters clean while in the field, it’s nice to have good cleaning cloths for critical cleaning. These will clean a UV filter or lens without leaving behind all the lint and dust like a T-shirt will. |
Sensor BrushAvailable At: Amazon A lot of people will scare you with the dangers of cleaning your sensor and recommend terrible products. You don’t need much to clean your sensor, and as long as you haven’t touched it or gotten oil on it, a sensor brush is all you ever need to get annoying dust or debris off. Keep these sensor brushes in their bag and blast them a few times with the rocket air above before applying them to your sensor. They work so well. Don’t mess with the wet method or those sticky gel sticks. |
Best Accessories Canon 90D Conclusions
These are some of the most useful and essential accessories. I’m still waiting on a few more items like L-Brackets or SmallRig camera cages. The 90D is an incredibly versatile camera so I would expect more filmmaking gear to come online.
If you find anything else that is a “must-have,” throw me a link and I’ll check it out.
