Best Accessories For The Nikon z8
1. Best Batteries For Nikon Z8
The Nikon Z8 uses the EN-EL15c battery.
The Z8 does use noticeably more power than the Z6 II or Z7 II so having more than one battery will be pretty essential if you shoot a lot. If you’re shooting casually you can go a full day off a single charge, but you do need to make sure you keep to keep it charged. For example, I typically still only use one battery a day when I’m shooting street photography, where I might be shooting for around 4 hours with maybe 700 shots.
Note: Nikon has upgraded the battery since the original Nikon Z6. The new official battery is now called the Nikon EN-EL15c. Previously it was called the Nikon EN-EL15b. This new battery is still 7-Volts but it got a pretty significant bump to the total power putting it at 2280mAh vs the old battery, which was at 1900 mAh.
Official Nikon Battery EN-EL15cThe batteries provided by Nikon for their Z8 camera model are excellent, especially if you frequently rely on a second battery. These official batteries consistently deliver reliable performance with impressive power output and capacity. I use Nikon batteries as my primary battery, resorting to third-party options only on rare occasions when I require an extra backup. Specs: 2280mAh |
Best Third-Party Batteries For Nikon Z8 – VemicoAvailable At: Amazon A lot of third-party batteries that were working in the Z6 and Z7 models are not working for the Z8. However, it’s looking like the Vemico batteries are working for the time being. Keep in mind firmware can change and it can disable third-party batteries again. So there is a little bit of a cat-and-mouse game when it comes to using third-party batteries in the Nikon Z8. I like these because they are bright orange and I don’t get them mixed up with the official Nikon batteries. Check out the Review here – Vemico Battery EN-EL15C Review Specs: 7.4V 2100mAh 15.54Wh |
Cables For Charging or Powering Your Nikon
To power your Nikon Z8 externally while in use, you can use a USB cable, but it won’t charge the camera’s battery simultaneously. The camera needs to be turned off to charge the battery. Remember to enable the “USB power delivery” option in the setup menu for this functionality. To power the camera externally, you’ll need a cable and a wall adapter or charger with a minimum output of 36W.
Make sure to prioritize PD (Power Delivery) compliant cables for charging and powering the camera. Some smart adapters may be PD-compliant but could face communication issues with the Nikon Z8, so also pay attention to the total wattage output as well.
Some wall adapters and cables may only provide 18W. So I recommend starting with an adapter offering at least 45W. Generally, any brand on Amazon that claims to power a MacBook should be suitable for effectively powering your camera.
2. Best Screen Protector Nikon z8
ULBTER Screen Protector – 3 Pack 0.3mm 9H HardnessAvailable At: Amazon The ULBTER Z8 / Z9 Screen Protector 2-Pack is a highly recommended option for photographers seeking reliable screen protection for their Z8. This pack includes two pieces of tempered glass, each measuring 0.3mm in thickness with a 9H hardness rating as well as two screen protectors for the top display. |
3. Memory Cards
To find out which memory cards are the most compatible and perform best, I recommend referring to the linked guide below. 4. Grips / Cases
SmallRig Z8 CageAvailable At: Amazon / Adorama / B&H Constructed with durable aluminum, the SmallRig Camera Cage offers both protection and improved functionality for your Nikon Z8. 5. Diffusion Filters
Enhance your night cityscape or portrait photography by incorporating mist filters, adding a touch of cinematic charm to your videos and still images. For a wider blooming effect, I recommend the uncoated Cinebloom filters.
If you prefer a more controlled aesthetic, the coated glass black mist filters from Tiffen provide a refined more controlled appearance. Here are a few Tiffen black Pro Mist Samples.
Moment CineBloom Diffusion FilterAvailable At: Amazon / Adorama / B&H For photographers and videographers aiming to infuse their night cityscape captures with a cinematic atmosphere, the Moment Cinebloom Diffusion Filters prove to be an excellent selection. These filters are crafted with uncoated glass, and deliver an additional boost of luminance and reflections, resulting in a distinctive aesthetic that sets them apart from coated alternatives. The inclusion of brass threads ensures a seamless and trouble-free user experience. When it comes to general photography, I personally find the 10% power option most suitable. However, it’s important to note that utilizing a filter at this power level may result in a minor reduction of slightly less than 1/3 of a stop in exposure. See my full Moment Cinebloom filter review. |
Tiffen Black Pro Mist FilterAvailable At: Amazon / Adorama / B&H The Tiffen Black Pro-Mist filter is a camera filter known for its versatility and stylish design. The filter’s unique nanoparticle construction creates a gentle more controlled diffusion effect, resulting in smoothed blooming highlights, reduced contrast, and a touch of cinematic charm in your shots. It is particularly useful in challenging lighting situations and can create a stunning halo effect. If you’re new to using this filter, I suggest starting with a power setting of 1/4. This setting delivers a noticeable effect without overpowering your visuals. You can anticipate a reduction of approximately 1/3 of stops of light or less. When it comes to straps, there is a wide range of styles and materials available, allowing photographers to personalize their experience and needs. Third-Party straps are a must-have accessory for any photographer using the Nikon Z8, especially since the camera is slightly bigger and heavier than the other mirrorless cameras.

Peak Design offers a wide range of excellent strap options. Personally, I find the Clutch hand strap to be particularly useful, especially when paired with an additional strap.

For the Nikon Z8, if you frequently use large, heavy lenses, opting for the thickest option would be advisable. |

Rope Camera Straps
Vi Vante Luxury Sheetline Rope StrapAvailable At:Â Amazon The Vi Vante Luxury Sheetline Rope strap has personally impressed me as the only rope strap I’ve used. With its 47-inch length, it’s particularly suitable for taller individuals or cross-carrying. While it may not be adjustable in size, its durability and sturdiness make it a great choice to support the weight of a Nikon Z8 camera. |
7. Cleaning Supplies
Proper maintenance is essential for preserving the pristine condition and optimal performance of your Nikon Z8 camera. Various lens cleaning cloths, blowers, and specialized tools are available to assist you in upkeeping your camera. Here are a few recommended cleaning supplies for the Nikon Z8.
Micro-Fiber Cleaning Cloths 6-PackAvailable At: Amazon Cleaning Cloths are essential for maintaining the cleanliness of your UV filters or lenses, leaving no residue or particles behind. It is advisable to keep an ample supply on hand, which is why I prefer purchasing them in bulk packs of six. Their compact size makes them convenient to pack into your camera bag. For more comprehensive camera cleaning, the cloth bags that come with Nikon lenses work well as they are thicker. Alternatively, you can find thicker microfiber cloths from various retailers that can also be useful in certain situations. |
Rocket Air BlasterAvailable At: Amazon When it comes to cleaning sensors, lenses, or filters, air blasters are essential tools that you shouldn’t overlook. The Rocket Air Blasters are highly recommended due to their stable design, which prevents them from rolling off your desk. They come in different sizes, but the medium size is the most practical and convenient option to use. |
Sensor BrushAvailable At: Amazon Proper sensor cleaning is crucial for maintaining the optimal performance of your Nikon Z8. Sensor brushes are essential tools that you shouldn’t overlook. These brushes effectively remove dust and dirt from the sensor that cannot be cleared with air blasters alone. To ensure the brush’s longevity, store it in its case and avoid touching the bristles. Since switching to a sensor brush years ago, I have found it to be so effective that I rarely need to use wet sensor swabs. Here is a complete guide to cleaning your camera and sensor. |
Nitecore BB2 Electric Blower
The Nitecore BB2 Electric Blower is a great tool for photographers and videographers alike. Its powerful yet gentle airflow efficiently eliminates dust and debris from delicate camera equipment and lenses. With its compact size and lightweight design, it’s incredibly convenient to carry along on your shoots. Additionally, the rechargeable battery ensures that you’re always prepared to clean your gear. See a full Nitecore BB2 Electric Blower review. |
Sensor Cleaning Swab KitAvailable At: Amazon In situations where the Sensor Brush falls short, I’ve recently incorporated a new cleaning kit into my routine: the UES cleaning wands, which include a cleaning solution. Similar products are available from various brands, and they all share similar features. These wands are incredibly user-friendly and highly effective, as each brush comes individually packaged for single use. |
8. Microphones
Since the Nikon Z8 is such a video powerhouse I’ve included some mics.
Rode Wireless Go Compact SystemThe Rode Wireless Mics provide an impressive combination of user-friendliness and high-quality audio. It’s worth mentioning that these mics utilize built-in rechargeable batteries, meaning it’s essential to keep them charged as they do not support interchangeable batteries. |
Rode Lavalier Go Omnidirectional Microphone For Wireless GoBy default, the Rode Wireless System does not include a microphone unless it is purchased as part of a bundle. Rode offers an official lav mic that is specifically designed to be used with their wireless system. Alternatively, you also have the option to order the entire system as a kit, which includes the necessary microphones for a complete setup. |
Rode NTG Hybrid MicThe Rode NTG Hybrid microphone features a 10 Ohm impedance and is compatible with Nikon cameras. When it comes to on-camera microphones, both the Rode NTG Hybrid and the Rode VideoMic GO II are excellent choices. For run-and-gun scenarios, I personally lean towards the VideoMic GO II, while the NTG Hybrid is better suited for professional settings, offering enhanced capabilities. |
