The Sony A7 Just Got Better With New Zeiss Loxia Lenses
Carl Zeiss recently just announced their new Sony E Mount primes the Zeiss Loxia 35mm and 50mm lenses.
Now I can't understand everything this guys saying in the video, but the lenses look pretty awesome. There is nothing better than all metal anything. Reminds me of the toys I grew up with in the 80's. Remember those old transformers, how they were all made of metal? Now everything is made of cheap plastic.
Sony A7r vs Sony A7s Video Comparison
Sony A7r vs Sony A7s Video Comparison
I found this cool video comparison between the Sony A7r and Sony A7s.
I'm not sure why, but for some reason, 99% of all video reviews are people comparing ISO performance and rating the camera based off that. If you're doing real production you're going to use some form of lighting to hopefully keep you from having to shoot at an extreme ISO.
Nobody really compares sharpness, or color depth. The most important thing to me is how well the image holds up when color correcting. It seems if you want to use your camera to replace your night vision goggles, then the Sony A7s might be for you.
Canon Announces New 16-35mm F4L IS
Canon announces a new version of it's 16-34mm lens. Its a bit slower this time at f4 but comes with image stabilization.
Although I've yet to see any samples or tests, the MTF charts look like there is a significant improvement to sharpness especially along the edges.
Sony A7 & A7r Electronic First Curtain Shutter Tests
I've never in the 13 year's I've been shooting photography seen a camera get as much scrutiny as the Sony A7 & A7r. And they are extreme. Laughable.

Converting 24p or 29.97 to 1080i50
There are a few ways to convert 24p or 29.97i / 29.97p to 1080i50. You can do it through Compressor or After Effects.
With after effects you'll be using motion compensation and apply a pulldown.
The Crude But Quick Way
It's really nasty but you can just drop your 29.97 or 24fps footage into a Final Cut Pro 25fps sequence.
It will skip or duplicate frames here and there. Might not be a big deal especially an event or action shots. You'll see it on dolly and pans.
I get footage from editors all the time like this. It's better going from 24 to 25 because it just adds frames which you can just cut out later. Going from 29.97 to 25 is a bit nasty because it drops frames, now way of getting them back.
The History of Aspect Ratio
I thought this video was really well done and was very educational. As an editor aspect ratio is something we had to deal with frequently, 4x3 vs 16x9, 1.777, 2.35, etc. Currently I'm having to edit something that was shot on the Alexa with Panavision lenses so the final aspect ratio is 2.35. It's kind of a hassle but looks so cool. Today our LCD TVs are 16:9 so the final image will have a huge letterbox on it. (black bars at the top and bottom) So much math, glad our D.P. is good at this stuff.
